Extreme renovation: architect David Driesen of DMVA Architects had a life long dream: to create a swimming pool in the backyard of his 17th century town house located in the city of Mechelen, Belgium. Unfortunately, due to space constraints, this dream never became a reality. Until one lucky day, when a dilapidated former school house, came up for sale. The school house bordered the back of his town house so he snapped up the property and had it completely gutted. Afterwards he reinforced the school house with an all steel and concrete structure. On top of the new building, he created a magnificent modern swimming pool, a little urban oasis that overlooks the old town of Mechelen. A beautiful contrast between old and new.
