Modern House on Narrow Lot

Modern House on Narrow Lot. The Roces House by Govaert & Vanhoutte Architectuurburo. Belgian architects Benny Govaert and Damiaan Vanhoutte first set up shop together back in 1989. Their sophisticated private dwellings such as the Roces House – a glassy, semi-subterranean residence nestled in the forest near Bruges – demonstrate a fine sense for volume and materials. The client had purchased a narrow building lot near the Medieval town of Brugge in Belgium. The building lot was 98 feet wide and 246 feet long which posed a challenge. The architects came up with a beautiful modern house, narrow but long with a high level of transparency. Shade is provided by the canopy of the Oak and Beech trees that surround the house.
