Diabolik was produced by Mario Bava in 1967 and stars John Philip Law (who has an uncanny resemblance to Jude law, although not related) and the charismatic icon of the Italian 60's B-Movie scene, Marisa Mell. The movie was released by Dino De Laurentiis who is also responsible for Barbarella in which John Philip Law stars as Pygar. The music was written by Ennio Morricone. This remains one of the lesser known masterpieces of modern space age film making. Think James Bond but on Acid! We were blown away by this movie; scene after scene, it impresses you with the best in modern: design, architecture, fashion, style, cars, etc.
This modernist film contains a blend of space age modern architecture, ultra modern late 1960s Italian design with oversized spinning round bends, all-white glossy fiberglass interiors, futuristic underground caves, super stylish actors in mod fashion (and on/off in a black leather outfit that would be a mighty proper fit for any bondage movie), hypnotic music, psychedelic induced and far out modern environments and ubercool Jaguar E-type race cars that drive off cliffs along the Italian Riviera. If you love 1960s and 1970s design by Verner Panton, Joe Colombo, Eero Aarnio, Eero Saarinen you have to rent this fabulous film.
