Children's Day AKA Koinobori takes place on May 5th. Landscapes across Japan are decorated with Koinobori (meaning carp-streamer) from April to early May, in honor of sons and in the hope that they will grow up healthy and strong.

Children's Day is "Kodomo no Hi"; Kodomo being children and Hi being day. Koinobori actually means "carp streamer/flag".
