Álvaro Siza, the Portuguese architect is regarded by some as the greatest architect Portugal has ever produced.
His style blends modernism's free organization of spaces with vernacular architecture, so he might use whitewashed stone in Portugal or brick in the Netherlands.
The 40 x 120 meter rectangular wine cellar has been built within the existing space and features 9 meter high, almost windowless walls. The visitor and delivery accesses are on the south west corner of the building. A second floor above the same area has access to a panoramic terrace. The delivery bays are located on the opposite end. In the area between the two highest points, and parallel to each other, are the production line and shaded warehouse.
