Jean Prouve Potence Lamp
This pivoting wall lamp deserves its reputation as a purist masterpiece of Jean Prouve. The spareness of material and formal elements create the fascination of this lamp. It is best suited to the domestic environment. The industrial looking Potence lamp by French designer Jean Prouve is made by Vitra in Germany. Vintage Jean Prouve items can be found through auction houses like wright20.
Designed in collaboration with Charlotte Perriand for Prouve's Tropique house, the Potence Lamp (1950) provides a unique solution for suspension lighting with its ingenious engineering and elegant form.
A single metal rod extends almost 7 feet from a wall-mounted vertical bracket, requiring no base to occupy floor space. A comfortable wood ball-ended handle moves the entire lamp laterally to illuminate a 180-degree range of space.
Much like Achille Castiglioni's iconic Arco Lamp, the Potence makes suspension lighting seem effortless and graceful -- a work of modern genius. Reproduced to exacting standards by Vitra. Bulb included: UL listed. 100W E26 incandescent. On-cord dimmer switch. Made in Germany.Links of interest:
