London Underground
Winter's Eclipse Springtime
Graphic Design by Albert E. Fruin
Published in 1922
We will be featuring some rare vintage travel posters dating back to the period between the 1920's and 1980's. Most of them are stunning examples of beautiful graphic design. This poster will be up for auction at "rare and important travel posters" auction at Swann Auction Galleries in New York City on November 18th.
Very little is known about this artist except for three posters he designed for the London Underground (before it was known as The Tube). Here utilizing an interesting celestial conceit, Fruin successfully captures the emergence of spring after a long cold winter by illustrating the same bucolic stretch of river (reachable by London's Underground) in two different seasons.
